Beginnings

Klemens Vetter was born into a musical family on Lake Constance in 1992. After a short time on the trumpet, he discovered his enthusiasm for the euphonium at the age of 12, which continues to this day.

Since then, he has continued his training at various masterclasses and won first prize at the national Jugend musiziert competition in 2012.

Studies

Studies

After graduating from high school, Klemens Vetter decided to study music with the euphonium and studied at the renowned Lucerne University of Music under Professor Thomas Rüedi. He completed his master’s degree there in summer 2019 with top marks.

In the same year, he won a position in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Police Orchestra, where he was principal euphonium until 2023. His engagements as an orchestral musician have already taken him to the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra and the Saxon Wind Philharmonic Orchestra in Leipzig, among others.

Historical instruments

In addition to his main instrument, the euphonium, Vetter also specializes in historical performance practices. In addition to the euphonium, he has also been playing the ophicleide and the serpent for several years.

He has played the ophicleide with the Ensemble Les Siècles under the direction of Francois Xavier Roth at the Philharmonie de Paris, the Collegium Musicum Luzern at the KKL in Lucerne and the Balthasar Neuman Ensemble at the Baden-Baden Festival.

Klemens Vetter has also won several prizes at international competitions. For example, he won second prize at the Philip Jones Brass Prize in Lucerne and the Juozas Pakalnis Competition in Lithuania, and in 2020 he won first prize at the Rising Stars Grand Prix in Berlin, the Grand Prize Virtuoso in Bonn and the Vienna New Years Competition

Teaching

Teaching activity

Klemens Vetter teaches the only euphonium class in Germany to date at the Leopold Mozart College in Augsburg. For some years now, it has also been possible to study euphonium in Germany and prepare professionally for a career in the various wind orchestras in Germany. Many students majoring in euphonium also work as teachers or conduct their own wind orchestra.

Klemens Vetter also teaches at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz. Here it is possible to prepare for a degree course or to complete a pedagogical training course, the content of which corresponds to a Bachelor’s degree.
